Baby class

Well we had another Mom and tot class and I must say that I am a little sad that next week is our last week already!? I wish the class was longer, just when I'm starting to get to know the other Mom's it's over!! I don't even know every ones name yet! :( I almost want to sign up again for another session, I did however sign up for Mom and tot swim classes, they start Oct 21st and I'm pretty excited about that but it is also a pretty short class and only has 8 lessons (twice a week, so only 4 weeks long). There are other classes I could go to in my neighborhood but I think it would be nicer to get to know the same moms not new moms at every class? Anyway ~ at our last class we had a dental hygienist and a librarian as guest speakers. They were informative and as a matter of fact I went to the library today and got Jacob his very own library card (it was free and they gave him a free book too!!). I even used his card and signed out a few books now I just have to make sure to get them back in time! Library's sure have changed a lot since the last time I was in one, they have computers in there some for adults and some specific just for kids. There was even a little boy that looked to be about 4 playing a game on one!!

The hygienist was also a good guest speaker and gave us all free tooth brushes (one for us and one for baby), she was telling us how they don't recommend "sippy cups" at all anymore and to just teach your kid to drink out of a cup or straw. The nutritionist said the same thing the week before, sippy cups are only good for car rides and if you do use them you should take the stopper thing out before giving it to the kid!? I think next week is on safety and I have a few questions on bathing. I'm curious to know what other Moms are using for baths right now cause Jacob is too small for the big tub but he's too big for the baby tub and last night I tried bathing with him in the big tub but to me baths are suppose to be a relaxing time and I'm not really into sitting in 3 inches of luke warm water! To me a bath is so hot that it turns my skin pink and you can see the steam coming off the water!! So I sat in Jacobs 3 inches of luke warm water and then after he was done I had to add more hot water but by then I was bored of being in the tub!? Any ideas? I was thinking of picking up one of those seat things that you put baby in and I think it sticks to the bottom of the tub but then you have to try and wash baby with this seat in the way!?

Today is hubby and my 3 year anniversary!! We probably aren't doing too much for it, I think we will go for supper but not until October when things are a little less busy. This week is just too busy, tomorrow Jacob has a doctor appointment and I need to go see the scrapbook lady to pick up things I paid for but needed to be ordered. Then Friday is racing at the track and I think I will go visit my Grandparents. Surprisingly there is no races on Sat or Sun but I think hubby will be busy in the garage trying to finish a car he has been working on for a while but is almost done and I have a b-day party to attend. And I would really like to clean my car out before winter comes, and before we know it - it is already Oct! That's about all for now, I'm tired today even though lately Jacob has been sleeping 11-12 hours !! I'm amazed that he is sleeping that long already but unfortunately when he sleeps that long at night that means he doesn't nap during the day so all my "free time" is after he goes to bed at 8pm. I'm not complaining though I really like that he lets us sleep in till 7ish!! ;) Here is a pick of him playing with the rings, notice his tongue sticking out as he is trying to figure out what they are! he he

3 Months already!

Well 3 months has passed already and I can't believe at how Jacob has changed, I love watching him develop new skills. Right now he has discovered his hands so I will hold toys for him and try to get him to grab them or hit them and when he does I cheer and get all excited. He seems to like this and tries even harder to hit it again! He still has a little bit of a cold, just a little stuffed up but it should pass soon. I did find a digital ear thermometer that was on sale at Babies R Us, I love it ~ not only is it fast but easy to use! It comes with an adaptor so that we can use it too and it also came with another thermometer (the kind you stick under the arm or under the tongue). Babies R Us also had those baby seats on sale (the no name version of a Bumbo) but this one was actually better cause it came with a tray that had toys on it. He's not quite ready for the seat yet, even though he can hold his head up pretty good it is still a little heavy for him and his head starts to bob after a while so I think I will wait for him to go in it, technically he's not suppose to use it till he is 4 months (according to the box?).

We had our Mom and Tot class yesterday and I got Jacob weighed (so I could put it in his baby book). Jacob weighed in at 15lbs 8oz and was 24" long ~ that's more then double his birth weight @ 7lbs and was 19" long!!! :O There was a nutritionist that was the guest speaker at the baby class which I was super excited for, I was surprised to find out that they now recommend that at 6 months your baby can eat whatever you want to feed it!? Anything except honey! ! I think it's because they realize that the older generations have less allergies then the younger ones now and I think it's because they weren't introduced to these foods as children therefore not getting the immunities they need to fight off allergies to them (like peanut butter). The nutritionist pretty much said that there is no point in buying canned "baby food" unless you want to pay more cause you can get the same thing out of fresh/frozen food and pureeing it yourself. It's like they are going back to the old way of feeding your kid. I really liked her, she was young but her ideas made sense to me, not like some of the other nurses that will tell you crazy things. I asked her about Jacob and asked if he was too big, I never really thought that he was until people kept telling me not to worry about his weight!? I never once thought he was heavy until people would say things like "don't worry he will burn it off when he starts to walk" ~ then I would look at him and think maybe they are seeing something I'm not and maybe he is too big!? But the nurse said he is just fine and according to the graph thing he is good. I also asked about his eating habits, you see he is a snacker and seems to like to eat smaller meals but more often, 4oz every hour till nap time or bed time, it still works out to the 35-40oz he should be getting per day but he just seems to eat all the time. I asked about when he should get "breakfast" "lunch" and "super" and they said that as long as he is sleeping through the night (which he is ~ at least 8-10 hours) then not to worry about it. So I won't, if he likes to snack then snacking it is! I like to think that it will train his metabolism to be fast cause he is always getting mini meals and hopefully he will not have my slow metabolism, but only time will tell!? Eventually I will be giving him rice cereal for breakfast and supper so maybe that will help him learn that there is a meal time? He is starting to show signs of being interested in food (other then milk), he watches me when I eat and has started to smack his gums like he is chewing on something. So that's about all that is new, I think soon I need to get into more of a schedule for me - now that he is kinda on a schedule I would like to have a weekly activity. Soon Mom and Tot class will be over and then I would like to take him swimming twice a week, that should help me get back into shape!? Gotta go - someone's calling!! ;)

1st cold :(

Well, Jacob has caught his first cold!! I noticed on the weekend when we were swimming that his head was really hot but I thought that maybe that was because his body was in the water and it's just natural for his heat to escape through his head. Then on Sunday at my nephews birthday party his head was still really hot and I figured maybe I had over dressed him cause it was kinda cold when we left home but had warmed up by the time we got to the party?! But then on Tuesday he woke up and sounded very stuffy and full of mucous. We got out the vaporizer and put some eucalyptus oil in it and yesterday we had an appointment with the doctor. She said there really isn't much you can do for babies when they are sick, just watch to make sure they don't get a fever and make sure his appetite is still good. I think today I am going to go buy a new thermometer and maybe a booger sucker thing cause the only thermometer I have is my basel body temp one that we used to get pregnant (which would work but takes for ever to register under his armpit), I want one that goes in the ear and is quick to get a reading. I think he caught the cold from his cousin (my niece who is always sick and only 18 months old) but you never know. I guess the more I take him out and around other kids the more chance there is of catching colds. He seems to be dding good though, I thought he was turning into a "mommas boy" but I guess he was just not feeling so good!?

We made it to our 2nd (officially 3rd) baby class! There were a lot of moms missing? I didn't really like this class as much as the first one, we watched a video that was called "happiest baby on the block" but should have been called "parenting for dummies!". To me the movie was dumb, everything they said was pure common sense stuff. They talked about how to calm your baby and "the 5 S's"..... swaddling, shh hing, swing, shaking (but more like rocking not shaking ~ but rocking doesn't start with an S) and sucking. Well to me these are common knowledge things, maybe I've watched too many movies but these are all the things that I thought moms just naturally knew about? Then we watched a video on baby massage, this video was a little better but still seemed a little dry to me? Next week we are having a nutritionist come in, I'm pretty excited to see what she has to say and I have a few questions about when to start beginner cereal and how much a baby should eat?

That's really about all that has been going on lately, the garage is still not finished but hopefully hubby will finish it next week! My birthday is coming up this weekend and I think instead of getting a cake I am going to ask for a DQ Blizzard!! yum! We are also having our 3rd year anniversary this month and Jacob has his 3 month doctor appointment! I would also like to get to the farmers market one more time before the season's over.

things thus far....

Note to self: must remember to go to baby class tomorrow!!
So I thought I would mention a few things that have been going on lately. Jacob is growing like a weed and is getting much more entertaining everyday! I have had to go through his closet again and box up outfits that no longer fit. He will be three months next week and is right on track with the size of clothes ~ he is now wearing 3-6 month outfits. I absolutely love his little laugh that is still a little rare to hear ~ he will giggle all the time and coo but only have a full out laugh about once a day. I'm sure that the older he gets the more he will laugh, I'm not even sure he knows what he is laughing about right now!? He has now discovered his hands and I think is completely amazed that they are attached to him, sometimes he will look at his fist and follow his arm as far as he can see then go back to the hand as if he's saying "what the heck is this thing and when did it get here?"

We went swimming on the weekend to a free Mom and tot class, it was fun but more for toddlers then babies. It sure tuckered Jacob out though, he of course fell asleep in the car seat on the way home and I just left him in the seat while I unpacked our bags and he was snoring away so I just let him sleep. After an hour in the car seat I figured I should get him up or else he may not sleep that night but I was wrong, he fell asleep at 8pm and didn't wake up till 6am!!! That's 10 hours!!! :o We need to go swimming more often! he he

Jacob is now consistently sleeping at least 8 hours every night but he likes to go to bed at 8:30pm, then he's up at 4:30 -5am (ish) for a bum change and feeding then we put him back in his crib, sometimes he will fall back asleep till 7:30am and sometimes he will just lay in his crib cooing and talking (it keeps us awake but it's super cute to listen to).

We also had my nephews birthday party to go to on Sunday, Jacob was a little cranky this day and I think he is really turning into a "mommas boy" cause every time I would leave the room he would cry. Today Jacob seems to be more tired then usual, maybe it is from the busy weekend ~ with the swimming and missing his naps or maybe I over stimulated him with all the kids at the party running around yelling? But it was a fun weekend and I'm sure he will get back into his routine in no time. I like having a routine but I don't want to be so stricked about it that it is hard for him to adapt without one?

Today we are going out for dinner for a friends birthday and asked the inlaws to babysit Jacob while we are out. I asked for them to come here cause I think it will be easier, instead of packing up food, diapers, toys, change of clothes, etc. I'm hoping that we won't be out too late cause this will be the first time he is left with a sitter for longer then an hour. And even though I completely trust my inlaws I still worry but I think that is a mom thing or at least a 1st time mom thing! ;) I posted a few pics again the first is him smiling and the one below is him swimming in Grandpa's hot tub, he seems to really enjoy the water!

2nd tot class

Maybe it was the long weekend or maybe it's my new "mommy brain" but I completely forgot to go to our Mom and Tot class on Tuesday!! And I'm completely pissed about it! I didn't even realize we had missed it until my hubby mentioned something at 3:30 about me going to class the next day, then I thought about it and realized that it was today and I had already missed it ~~ grrr !! So now I have put a reminder in my cell phone and set an alarm to go off the day before, now to just make sure my phone is charged!! ;)

I don't have much time to blog today - I can hear Jacob talking and that will soon turn into "hello ? ? where's mommy??" crying. So ..... we are almost finished the garage siding (it is taking way longer then I thought it would!) ..... Jacob and I are going to our first swim class this Sat (for free!!) .... and I think he has officially outgrown most of his 0-3 month outfits!!
