1st Prenatal appointment ~!! :)

So as most of you know yesterday was my 1st Prenatal doctors appointment and it went pretty darn good! When we got there the receptionist lady was on the phone for what seemed to be forever but maybe that was probably just because I had to pee and knew that I had to save it for a cup sample! ;) So she finally got off the phone and told me to use their washroom and pee in a cup then come back to the room to get my blood pressure, weight and height taken. I was kinda surprised that when I got my cup to put my "sample" in - it was just a regular plastic cup, not one of the sterilized cups with the twist lid? Anyway my protein and sugar are all good, I weighed in at 82kg which is like 180lbs (I think) so I've gained about 8lbs since the beginning. She didn't say anything about my weight, I'm happy with 8lbs I think its good so I guess that's all that matters ? My blood pressure was 123/65 and pulse was 72 - I guess that is also all good, I thought my blood pressure was kinda low bu she said no it was good!? Then I went in the room to answer the huge questionnaire about family history health questions and got about 3 sheets for different blood tests and one for the ultrasound. I need to go for 2 of the blood tests right away (it was too late in the day yesterday and think I will go this weekend to the clinic) and I need to call right away to book my ultrasound for the end of January and the last blood test is optional and we decided not to go for it. It is the "tri-test" that tests for downs syndrome and two other metal illnesses but the results are usually inconclusive and lead to extra worry anyway so we decided not to have that worry and just let nature take it's course. We are considered low risk anyway and don't have any family history of mental illnesses or live a "high risk" lifestyle so I figure we are pretty safe!? Then after she did a full physical on me my hubby finally came into the room to hear the heartbeat! The best part of the entire exam I must say!! I could listen to that little heartbeat all day - it was amazing and fast too!! 164 bpm - which is pretty strong and according to all the wife's tales it has more probability to be a boy! ?

So we have decided that we do not want to know what the sex is, we will keep it as a surprise. Which is fine with me, I kinda left that decision up to my hubby if he wants to know then I'm OK with that but if he doesn't then that's OK too!? So that means that we also decided that we would do the nursery in a "jungle/ safari" neutral theme. But you may want to still wait till after the ultrasound to buy anything cause the final decision still might change?! ;) My next appoinment is January 9th at 3:30pm which shouldn't take as long as this one did and hopefully I will hear the heartbeat again! :)

Congrats!! That is great you got to hear the heartbeat and everything!

We didn't get to hear ours until later (though we had a very early ultrasound early to be sure everything was ok...see my uterus was tilted and blocked the dopplar!)

I think it is so funny how it sounds like a washing machine :) But they say that is because it is reading it through all that fluid! Just wait in about 7 or so more weeks your hubby will be able to hear it by putting his ear to your stomach! I am kind of jealous of that...but then I felt the kicking first...so I let it slide ;)

Congrats again! In a few more days you'll be in your 2nd trimester!

How exciting that you got to hear the heartbeat! So cool!

I'd say your blood pressure was really good... mine's been high whenever I go to the doctor because I'm so nervous!

Also, an 8lb weight gain sounds really good, too! I know I'm going to gain a ton before this is all over.
